September is a month of celebration at Northgate Community Church, as the congregation dedicates their new church sanctuary and gives thanks for 50 years of continuous ministry in Montgomery Village. The church began in 1969 with a small group of people meeting in the music room at Montgomery Village Junior High School (now Montgomery Village Middle School). In 1972, Thurlow Switzer became the pastor while the congregation was meeting in the all-purpose room at Watkins Mill Elementary School and then at Stedwick Elementary School. Meanwhile the congregation purchased property, began construction and, in 1981, moved into their own church facility at 20300 Pleasant Ridge Drive in Montgomery Village.
During the ensuing years as the congregation was growing, the facility has been home also to Montgomery County Covenant Academy and Ets Chaiyim Tree of Life School. One of the ministries of Northgate Community Church—Living Grace Christian School-—operates classes from Kindergarten through 12th grade. In 2017, construction was completed on the newly expanded facilities that are used by the Northgate Community Church congregation as well as Living Grace Christian School. Dr. Daniel Switzer is the Lead Pastor of the church, assisted by a team of elders and deacons.
The Northgate Community Church congregation invites area residents to stop by and see the beautiful new facilities. During the five Sundays of September, Northgate is celebrating the Lord’s faithfulness to the congregation with a different guest speaker each Sunday: September 1 - Rev Wayne Pratt; September 8 - Bishop-Apostle Henry Joyner; September 15 - Founding Pastor Thurlow Switzer; September 22 - Lead Pastor Dan Switzer officiating at the Prayer of Dedication of the new church sanctuary; and September 29, the Northgate young people will be leading the worship service.
